Looking around the field this morning was a clear sign that summer is full tilt. Everyday there is something to harvest and we are getting lots of support through our roadside farmstand and pre-orders. Veneta Farmers Market continues to be a great source of community interaction and the support for our Fall CSA program is so appreciated. During this bountiful time of year we are all intertwined in this local foodweb.
Early days of August have some promising hints of crops to come these next few weeks and later. Since we're in our first year we didn't blow it up too much, but the 200' of melons we have are doing well. CSA gets first dibs on them so standby farmstand and market shoppers, it won't be too long now. Our green bean patch is producing strong and by middle to late August we will be opening up 300' of beans for U-Pick. Perfect timing to stock up on beans for canning or freezing.
Having been hard at work since early February is really starting to take a toll on our energy levels. Getting through the fall crop planting and cultivating push took a lot of effort and we are just about done with our end of 2016/overwintering planting. All the while Brandon has been working 10-12 hours 6 days a week at the farm with Andréa spread between two farms, Ambrosia and Winter Green. Staying on top CSA, Farmstand and Market harvest is enough to keep us busy and we keep plugging away to provide for everyone in our local community. Good thing this amount of workload is only required for a short amount of time. Support from all of you has been our motivation to continue forward with optimism this season and we are deeply grateful for the trust you placed in us before we even shook hands. Stay tuned for more as the season unfolds.
